The Ockley Neighbourhood Plan

The introduction of neighbourhood planning is part of broader changes to the planning system introduced by the Localism Act. The Act aims to shift power from central government to local councils and their communities. It can be used to:
  • Choose where new homes, shops and offices should be built
  • Have a say on what those new buildings should look like; and
  • Grant planning permission for the new buildings communities want to see go ahead

Ockley Parish Council is working closely with the local community and with Mole Valley District Council to produce our own Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP).  A Neighbourhood Plan Task Force has been put together comprising representatives from all areas of the community from clubs/ societies, to local businesses land owners and residents. Their role is to:

  • Collaborate fully with residents, businesses and organisations in the area and encourage everyone to have their say on how Ockley should develop over the next 20 years
  • Oversee the development of the NDP, making sure the ideas incorporated are fully researched and achievable
  • Create an NDP that the majority of people living or working in Ockley agree with and can support
  • Provide Mole Valley District Council with an NDP that can be adopted within existing planning policy

Thank you to all who have taken the time to visit a drop-in event or respond to the questionnaire, your feedback and comments continue to form the backbone of the Draft Plan and we will continue with consultations throughout the process. It is essential that the NDP has the support of as many people in the local community as possible - a referendum will be held to give everyone in the community the opportunity to approve any plan before it comes into force.
